Bob Orders the Lights For The Sanctuary

Bob Legere (left) confers with Fred Breland about the sanctuary lights, which are on order from a company in Indianapolis. Delivery is due this week. Installation will be complete in time for an evening service on Good Friday. Bob is formerly from Bangor, Maine, and is a graduate of the Maine Maritime academy. He's a member of Lutheran Church of The Pines and serves on the church council. After the storm, Bob was so grateful for his good fortune that he bought one of the new pews for the church.

"The entire law is summed up in a single command: "Love your neighbor as yourself."... Gal 5:14

Bob lives in Diamond Head, which is Northeast of Waveland. He lives on higher ground ( 70 feet above sea level) , and on the back side a a hill, which shielded his house from the worst wind damage.

Before the storm, the community of Diamond Head had 10 to 11 thousand residents. Being at the north side of St Louis Bay, the waterfront was inundated by a large storm surge pushed up the bay by the wind. High water was 42 feet in Rotten Bayou. A marina was completely destroyed and a 10,000 gallon aviation fuel tank, from the airport floated over to the middle of I-10.

During the storm, trees were "breaking like they were toothpicks". He had 14 people, 2 dogs, and 9 cats staying over, during the hurricane. Everyone survived.

Bob's Garage was twisted by the wind. Due to the severe structural damage, it was declared a total loss, by the insurance estimator.

By coincidence, the government of Iceland asked one of of it's expatriates to check on all the Icelanders in the area... Bob's wife is from Iceland... So he came over and conferred with Bob's wife "in an ancient Viking language" and they learned that he is a contractor. He was hired to make repairs. They used a chain to pull the garage back into shape and braced it.

Power was out for 10 to 12 days at Bob's house, but he had a generator and was able to run two ceiling fans and two refrigerators.

His son lived in a mobile home, which was lost. An old ships bell memento was found nearby; A plaque was found 3 miles away; and his son's old Merchant Marine ID was found by FEMA 7 miles away in Bayou Lacroix.
